Victory Through Faith
For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. 1 John 5:4
There exists no problem in the universe that should cause any believer to shift their eyes away from the answer, Jesus – who he is and what he’s done. All are called to walk as he walked, and in order to do so, we all must remain in him.
There are many ways to grow in overcoming disappointments, but the Holy Spirit is the only one who can show you what you need to do in every situation.
Here are a few practical ways that have been helpful for us,
- Study God’s Word and look at how Jesus walked so that you can learn from how he responded. (John 13 and 18 are two of many chapters where you can really glean from Jesus’ heart and how he responded.)
- Be resolved in your heart to have a simple and pure devotion to Christ. (Psalm 16:8, 2 Corinthians 11:3)
- Commit to walking in prayer and thanksgiving, instead of focusing continually on disappointments. (2 Thessalonians 5:17-18)
- Be intentional to guard your thoughts and remember that people don’t wake up to please you. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Galatians 5:13)
- Focus on the truth that as a believer, Christ lives in you so that you can shine his light through every storm. (Matthew 7:24-27)
When we diligently seek to know his heart and mind, and choose to actively put our faith in him, that is how we overcome every circumstance of life.
Who is it that is overcomes the world? Only the one who trusts in, relies on and believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:5
