Alabaster Jar
While Jesus was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon, a man who previously had leprosy, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me…”
Mark 14:3-6
May this story from scripture and these words encourage you to draw close to Jesus. He welcomes you by name with a heart of love and open arms.
I’m drawing near because I know who you are
And I know who I am in you
I’m drawing near because I know who you are
You are holy, and you hold me
You are lovely, and you love me
Others may laugh at me, mock me,
And say, “what is he doing?”
But I know who you are
So I’ve come to break my alabaster jar
It’s everything that I hold near
It’s everything that I hold dear
It’s all my hopes and all my dreams
All my fears and all my tears
I’m laying everything at your feet
Because I know who you are
I come to break my alabaster jar
