Common Obstacles
The battle against impure thoughts is not something only you may struggle with, but rather Scripture says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) We encourage you that you are not alone in this, and God has made freedom available in Christ.
The temptations of ungodly thoughts are far more than only a mental or physical struggle, it’s also spiritual. That’s why the scriptures say, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…but against the spiritual forces of evil.” (Ephesians 6:12)
One common obstacle believers struggle with is not understanding the importance of guarding each and every thought. This can cause them to unintentionally overlook their thoughts, which can be directly tied to their struggle. Along with this obstacle, believers can be far too lenient with what they let their mind focus on, instead of being diligent to guard their heart above all else and set their mind on things above.
Another hurdle can come up for disciples if they embrace and accept as truth the incorrect thoughts that others have expressed toward them. This can also happen if they accept as truth the incorrect thoughts they’ve had toward themselves. Although we totally understand that the words and thoughts of others have great potential to influence, both positively and negatively, we also believe that the most important thing is embracing and accepting God’s thoughts and words. It’s every believers choice to decide whether they will consistently allow God’s truth to speak louder than the thoughts or words of anyone else.
We will be sharing more practical ways to grow in overcoming these obstacles. Praise God! He has given his children everything they need for life and godliness, and through him they can experience the renewed mind of Christ.
For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
