Eyes Of Your Heart
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you… Ephesians 1:18
The beginning of this prayer is such a powerful example that teaches believers the importance of having a heart filled with light and understanding. If there is an area of a believer’s heart that is not flooded with God’s light, that does not necessarily mean they are filled with “evil”, it simply means there are areas where they are not seeing things with full clarity.
The fact that the eyes of your heart can be enlightened, means that God desires to reveal to your heart the truth of who he is and who you are in him. He actually wants you to know him, not only know about him, there is a difference. God wants you to have understanding, not merely to follow him in blind faith and exclude the insight into the truth he has made available.
The purpose of God enlightening your heart is so that you can know the hope to which he has called you. Most certainly, the hope of every believer is the promise of heaven and eternity with God in perfection. This truth should impact and empower all believers to live with an eternal perspective for God’s glory. The hope of heaven should never cause one to be complacent here on earth. Although it can be overlooked, another part of the hope to which he has called believers is the hope of a transformed life and being refined into Christ’s image while here on the earth. Not living in the hope that God can transform you in this life is a major detriment to your walk with God.
Wisdom is of utmost importance, therefore get wisdom, and with all your effort work to acquire understanding. Proverbs 4:7
