Living Out Your Purpose
There’s many people who want to walk out their purpose in Christ, yet struggle to know what their purpose in Christ is. Thank God he does reveal through Scripture the reason and purpose that we are alive in him and he is living in us.
We’ve discovered that what it means to live out your purpose in Christ is to glorify God by walking in love. That’s why the Lord Jesus himself said,
…love the Lord your God…and love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31
Think about this commandment in light of the goodness of God’s heart. Would he not command us to do the very thing that is the fulfillment of what he created us for?
God is love and when he created mankind, he originally designed them to bear his image of love. To be loved by him and multiply love on the earth.
Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost, and the image of God’s love in people had been lost through sin. He knew that man was created to bear God’s image and that’s why he told his disciples,
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12
They were to be loved by him and love each other with that same love. The love Jesus pours out is selfless love that is willing to lay down its life.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
And Jesus even laid down his life for his enemies and lived out the word that he taught to love your enemies. Apart from Christ, we were all enemies of God.
…while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5:10
Jesus lived out his purpose by living in love to the point of laying down his life. We’re called to be imitators of God and follow Christ, how can that not also be our purpose?
