Never Alone

godly perspectives

A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. John 16:32

It can be “naturally” easy to feel  a deep sense of lack, loneliness and hurt when your closest friends desert you in your hour of trouble. This is exactly what happened to Jesus when the most difficult time of his life was approaching, yet he had a deep satisfaction that came from the Father.

If his trust was in his disciples, he would have felt lack when they ran away. Yet, “Jesus would not entrust himself to them…for he knew what was in each person.” (John 2:24, 25) “Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” (1 Peter 2:23)

Jesus’ intimate relationship with the Father empowered him to understand his acceptance and unity with God so that no circumstance or person could take it away. He knew that God sent him and would not leave him alone. His faith in that truth strengthened him to never lack even in the hardest moments.

It’s important not to disregard the reality of Jesus’ suffering. Neither should we disregard the sufferings we may go through. However, through the suffering Jesus endured, he demonstrates for us that we also can overcome hardships that we will face and glorify God by trusting in him and never lacking through every circumstance of life.

Since he didn’t lack, but was obedient to the Father, even unto death, his obedience opened up the way for us to be reconciled to God and united with Christ. Through our faith in him, the Holy Spirit can strengthen us to walk as he walked. Just as Scripture says,

whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1 John 2:6

We pray you would know that in Christ you are lacking no good thing and that the Father is always with you.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
