No More You Apart From Him
For I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. The life I once lived in the flesh I now live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me. Galatians 2:20
Before being born again, we lived in the kingdom of darkness apart from God. Scripture is clear that before Christ, we were dead and God’s enemies. At that time, our old self was not in him at all. (Col. 1:13, Rom. 5:10, Eph. 2:1)
Now that Jesus has come, that old self has been crucified with Christ. The person who was not in him is dead. The person who has been resurrected in Christ is now completely in him. There is one new person and no part of him is out of Christ. We are new creations, the old has passed away, behold all things become new. (2 Cor. 5:17)
This is the way we ought to consider ourselves – dead to sin and alive to God in Christ.
If you commit sin and act like you are apart from him, that doesn’t mean you have to identify with being “in sin” again. Instead, recognize what you’ve done, confess your sin, change your mind and continue to believe that he has cleansed you and declare that you are “in him”.
If you continue to walk in the mindset that you are in Christ, it will put integrity in your life and cause you to run back to God whenever you stumble. You will not be waiting to fail or thinking that you are “sin destined to happen”. With the renewed mind, you will be thinking of yourself in him and believing grace will empower you to take you as far as God wills. Knowing you are in him, doesn’t make a way for you to sin and get away with it, it makes a way for you to be transformed and be free from the power of sin.
We pray that the Lord would continue to call you higher into your new identity in Christ. May the struggles of sin in your life no longer be who you are, but may the truth of who you are in Christ continue to give you overcoming power against the struggles of sin.
