Practically Guarding Thoughts
Like we stated in the last blog, we will be sharing some practical ways to overcome common obstacles. We’ll be sharing specifically on these:
- Unintentionally overlooking your thoughts/being too lenient.
- Accepting as truth what others or you have incorrectly spoken / struggling to embrace as truth what God has spoken.
Guarding each and every thought is mandatory for any believer who wants to walk in daily victory. This has revolutionized our life and brought abundant freedom and joy! If you are willing to take this seriously and be diligent, then we know that you are going to see amazing growth.
Some believers think that guarding their thoughts sounds “too simple” to bring breakthrough, while others say it is “too difficult” to consistently live out. From our experience, people often try to guard their thoughts for a short period of time and do not experience immediate change, therefore they write off guarding their thoughts altogether. This becomes a big stumbling block and immobilizes believers. When your thoughts aren’t being guarded, it affects what you focus on, talk about and how you live.
Here’s a few practical suggestions…
- Begin keeping a closer account of your thought life.
- Take time to write down any thoughts you recognize are not of God – whether lies, lack or fear etc.
- As you discover these thoughts, take time with the Lord and ask him to reveal the truth to you about these thoughts.
- As you’re keeping a closer account of your thought life, identifying lies and seeking God for the truth, be continually diligent to replace the lies by thinking on and speaking out the truth in that very moment, no matter what you may be feeling.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think on these things. Philippians 4:8
