Proper Thinking
Relationships do not flourish through passivity, they require intentionality and action. The same is true in our relationship with God. It’s powerful when we know how to actively present ourselves to God and to consciously consider ourselves before him.
The Scripture says, do not think of yourself more highly than you ought. We couldn’t agree more that having arrogance or pride is not love. But there is a difference between thinking of yourself more highly than you ought and thinking of yourself as you ought.
Here are a few scriptures that show us how we ought to think of ourselves. Let us believe the thoughts of the Lord toward us and give him all the glory.
You also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11
…present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life… Romans 6:13b
…present…your members to God as instruments for righteousness… Romans 6:13b
…present your members as servants to righteousness which results in holiness. Romans 6:19
…God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
Scripture also says a few ways we are not supposed to present and regard ourselves:
Do not present any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness… Romans 6:13a
From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. 2 Corinthians 5:16
